We’ll admit that our list of must-read books has been stacking up on our nightstand more quickly than we can read through it. One of our New Year’s resolutions is to make a significant dent in our reading list and to spend less time scrolling on our phone and Netflix binging. Thankfully, with so many audio books available, we can knock a good bit of our list out while we are in the car to and from meetings, school drop offs, and while traveling. We’ve pulled together a list of books that have been on our radar, as well as a handful that are coming out this year. From fiction novels to inspirational career boosts, and a savvy financial advice book, these reads will make it easy to turn hundreds of pages this year. Happy reading!
1. The Dinner: We love a can’t-put-down fiction read to curl up with in the evenings over a cup of hot tea. This suspenseful book, set at a trendy restaurant in Amsterdam, is a story about two couples who share a dark secret.
2. Leave Your Mark: We have ambitious career goals this year, and we are really excited to dive into this book by “PR girl” Aliza Licht that focuses on communicating and building your personal brand. She had us at the cover: “Land Your Dream Job. Kill It In Your Career. Rock Social Media.”
3. Chasing Slow: Courage to Journey Off the Beaten Path: We’re all too familiar with the feeling of wanting to be somewhere else than where we currently are, and constantly striving towards something more. In this book, HGTV.com star Erin Loechner explores this topic and how to renew your priorities and refresh your perspective. Very appropriate to kick off a new year!
4. Better Than Before: What I Learned About Making and Breaking Habits–to Sleep More, Quit Sugar, Procrastinate Less, and Generally Build a Happier Life: This title by author of The Happiness Project Gretchen Rubin says it all.
5. In the Company of Women: Inspiration and Advice from over 100 Makers, Artists, and Entrepreneurs: Pages of advice from a hundred fellow female entrepreneurs and creatives?! Yes, please.
6. The Financial Diet: A Total Beginner’s Guide to Getting Good with Money: With the fresh start of a new year, we are excited to set financial goals and will take all the advice that we can get!
7. Motivation Myth: Author Jeff Haden proves that “Motivation” as we know it is a myth. Motivation, turns out, isn’t a magic formula that we need to achieve our goals. Motivation is actually a result of process, not a cause, which changes how we approach our goal setting and how we tackle obstacles. Intrigued? We are!
8. Where’d You Go, Bernadette – We’ve had this one on our reading list for ages, and now that the movie starring Cate Blanchett is slated for May 11th, we are really incentivized to read it!
9. Smitten Kitchen Every Day: Triumphant and Unfussy New Favorites: One of our 2018 resolutions is to cook more at home, and this new Smitten Kitchen book has us excited to test out new, “unfussy” recipes.
10. How to Hygge: The Secrets of Nordic Living: Hygge (pronounced hoo-ga), the Danish philosophy of comfort and togetherness, made a big splash in decor trends last year, and we have a hunch it’s here to stay. Hygge encourages cozying up with warm blankets, candles, and books — sign us up!
11. Goodbye Vitamin: A Novel: Named a Best Book of The Year by Vogue, NPR, O, The Oprah Magazine, and others, this novel tells the story of a woman named Ruth who is “freshly disengaged from her fiancé and feeling that life has not turned out quite the way she planned.” We’re hooked, plus we like the cover. 🙂
12. Worn in New York: We love books set in New York, and this book comprises sixty-eight first person clothing-inspired narratives in New York City. Yes, please!
