I had the pleasure of meeting the Houston based designer, David Peck, when we were still living in New York City. We were in Houston visiting family and my MIL told me I had to meet a talented local designer. I was pregnant with Knox at the time and found some great dresses that worked with my growing bump and I have been a fan and a friend of David ever since.
Fast forward a year later, we moved to Houston and David always took the time to include me in local fashion events, introduce me to friends in the industry and was a true mentor to me in the Houston fashion community. I am so proud of my friend and excited to introduce you to his (fairly) new ready-to-wear and custom-made clothing line, Miles David.
His latest venture may still be in the early stages (with a new location in the Tanglewood area), but Daivd himself is certainly not new to the art of design. He studied fashion design at Ecole Parsons à Paris where he graduated with top honors, winning the designer of the year award for his junior and senior collections. While in Paris, David worked for renowned fashion houses such as Paco Rabanne, Junichi Hakamaki, and Robert Normand.
After a short stint in New York City, David decided it was time to move closer to family and relocated to Houston in 2010. Not only is his flagship store local, but David’s is dedicated to local manufacturing and meaningful job creation brining you beautiful clothes made with the utmost care and superior quality right here in Houston.
When the annual Children’s Fund Gala invitations went out, I knew just the place to go to find the perfect gown to mark the occasion. After chatting with David about what I wanted, he suggested we create a made-to-order gown that we could design together. Needless to say, I was so excited! My wedding gown wasn’t even this custom!
We met at the store and I started the process by trying on a few of my favorite gowns he had on the racks. I narrowed it down to these three dresses and tried them all on to help us decide on a silhouette.
I love the open back and embroidery detail on this gown! The V-neck and full skirt were so flattering and I love the longer length in the back! So much to love!
Next, I tried on this cute animal print cocktail dress. I was probably the most drawn to this style, but we both agreed it looked too much like ‘me’ or something I already had hanging in my closet. I wanted to take the opportunity to create something really unique and special and this felt to predictably Caroline.
That left us with the lime green lace dress you see hanging in the fitting room above. The gown was sexy with very of-the-moment cutouts, but still classic with the beautiful lace overlay. As fun as the vibrant color was, we both agreed that black would be more ‘me’ and also allow me to get more wear out of it. So we sat down to look at several different lace options. We landed on a classic black lace for the cutouts and to create a short sleeve, but unlike the one I tried on, we decided against the lace overlay on the rest of the gown.
It was so amazing to walk in the back room and see everything that would bring our vision to life! Of course, David himself, but also the fabrics, materials, bust and talented seamstress. It is so rare to actually see and meet the team behind such a work of art and to get this type of quality and service right in here in Houston is such a gift to our city!
I left Miles David feeling so grateful and truly inspired for such artistry and passion! And, of course, I couldn’t wait to see our vision come to life!
Soon it was time for me to come in for a fitting!
Having a gown custom-made for me was a new experience. As soon as I slipped it on I could feel the difference! It literally fit in all the right places. There were just a few tweaks we needed to make around the neckline and bust to make it perfect!
I could not have been happier with how it turned out. It is unique and different from anything I have ever owned. It is classic. It is sexy. It is exquisite! Thank you David for my new prize possession. I think I have the perfect place for it in my office to always inspire me!

Gorgeous dress on you! You also seem to always have great denim! Can you share the exact pair you’re wearing in the first photo? Thanks!
