We celebrated Knox’s second birthday last weekend with a barnyard birthday party in our backyard! He is obsessed with all things horses right now because his grandparents (my parents) have horses at their house that Knox can ride with my dad. He brought home some little plastic horses from his last stay with them when I was in NYC and they still don’t leave his side. The horses are lined up around his plate at mealtime sharing his food and in bed with him at night. Each one has a different name (named after his Cappy’s real horses) and he can tell them all apart (and expects you to, as well)!
That being said, it only seemed fitting to have a barnyard birthday bash for Knox’s second birthday party!
I was also pretty excited about this theme for how easy it was on Mom! We are still undergoing a little construction / design project in our living room and dinning room so I was excited to host an outdoor party. The fact that the entertainment (the animals and bounce house) was delivered and picked up for party time was pretty nice, too! This meant all I had to worry about was the menu and a little decorations.
I ordered the cow print table-cloth, the animal balloons, the barn piñata, and the cups and napkins in an easy online checkout at Birthday Express.
My sister and I made a late night trip to Michael’s the night before the party to make the big ‘happy birthday’ banner for the fence with a paint pen, my block letter skills from cheerleading days and my sister’s artistic skills for the bandana print + cow print. We were literally in tears laughing at our talents in one of those late night delirious moments only sisters can truly appreciate.
It was a Saturday morning party so we kept the menu simple with breakfast kolaches, fruit and donut holes.
When we told the sweet lady who always makes our cakes and cookies what the theme this year was, she laughed and said it couldn’t be more different than his first birthday party theme! I guess that is what a year in Texas will do! 😉
Kate surprised Knox with this horse and he pretty much hasn’t got off of it since! It is his new prize possession and he has to introduce anyone who comes over to his new buddy! For more family pictures and fun from the party you can click through the slideshow below…
