I can’t believe it is almost here! Two months seemed like a life time when we closed on our house, but we get possession of our new home a week from today! There isn’t anything that needs to be done to the house as the previous owners kept it pretty impeccable, but there are always things we want to change to make it ours.

One of the things we are doing is painting the outside of the house. I am finalizing paint colors this week, but we are going with a crisp white trim and black lacquer shutters, but the big question is the front door color! I would love to have a HOUSE of HARPER orange front door (like the one above), but I just can’t pull the trigger on it.

I have found a few articles online like this one listing best paint colors for doors, but I honestly think the best thing to do is to drive around neighborhoods and see the colors in person.  It is so hard to tell a true color online or in a swatch.  I found colors I loved on a house and just asked the owners (luckily they are friends of mine) what they used.

I also love the simplicity of a shiny black door like this one, but I think I want something that pops more.

Well this is a color I could never pull off, but how pretty is the contrast against the dark flowers?!

I have always wanted a red front door!  I don’t know what it is about them, but when I would pass a red door at the top of a stoop in NYC I always had to stop and take a picture!  To me, it is very welcoming and warm, but still bold enough to make a statement.  I may finally get my red door! 😉
