When trying to find the perfect apartment in New York, you start out with a budget and a wish list. But, you soon realize that your dream two bedroom 1,500 square-foot brownstone with a terrace and a fireplace looks more like a 600 square-foot one bedroom walk-up with a tiny bathroom.  So, taking it all in stride and making the most of what you’ve got is a must.

The apartment we found was lacking in the bathroom department but redeeming in other areas (that I will tell you about in another post).  The first thing on my list of things to do when we moved in was to find a storage solution since the bathroom didn’t come with  cabinets.  I found these two great mahogany wood shelves at Target for an affordable and easy problem solver.

Once the storage problem was solved, it was time to add the finishing touches…

{Horchow cross}

I often find that the old saying “out of sight, out of mind” applies to my accessories.  Hanging my necklaces on this cross in my bathroom makes getting ready easy and leaves me no excuse to walk out of the apartment with out accessorizing.

Restoration Hardware Glass Shower Curtain Hooks{Restoration Hardware shower hooks}

The feminine glass shower curtain hooks add a shabby chic touch to the sky blue shower curtain with out over powering it.

Antique Pickle Jars{Antique Pickle Jars from Canterbury Court}

I love finding new ways to use my antique pickle jars, and I am starting to realize you can never have enough of them.  I love that I have never found two that are the same.  The uniqueness of each one’s size, shape and design adds character to the collection.

Restoration Hardware Diamond Matelassé Shower Curtain{monogrammed shower curtain from Restoration Hardware}

Personalizing your house is what makes it feel like a home.  I find one of the best ways to add a personal touch is to simply add a monogram like the “K” on our diamond matelasse shower curtain.
