Welcome back and happy 2020! We took the week of Christmas and New Years off and it was so wonderful to just relax and spend quality time with family. But, we are BACK and super EXCITED to pick up on our Harper Hill Country room reveals!
Today’s room is the heart of the home, the kitchen. For this space, we wanted it to be very open concept for entertaining the entire family, but also flow with the outdoors since we spend a lot of time on the back porch. I am so excited with how it turned out from the light fixtures to the stunning countertops. Read on for all the details…
This pass through window opens to the back porch to take in the beautiful views and Hill Country breeze while doing dishes or to easily serve your guest on the back porch.
It’s so hard to capture the view with the kitchen, but the view from this window is one of my favorites on the property. I love that this picture window really captures it in all its glory!
The floating shelves are custom with the wood that was also used in the living room shelves and stained to match the ceilings and doors. A local welder made these brackets based off a pictures we showed him and I absolutely love how they turned out! The open shelves allow for a lot of light and maximum view from the window. Plus, it was fun to style with all my mom’s antiques!
Can we talk about these fun light fixtures above the window from Circa Lighting?! I love a good Double Arm Library Light! The height is perfect for making a statement in the space between the window and high ceilings. And I love the dark bronze finish to contrast with the white cabinets and shiplap.
This huge island is where everyone is gathered most of the time. (Have you ever noticed how everyone always ends up in the kitchen?!) We went with Soapstone for the countertops and they are my new obsession! I honestly probably would have never thought about it, but I worked with Aria Stone Gallery and they showed me their beautiful assortment and educated me on how durable and sanitary of a natural stone it is.
Here are a few of the benefits that sold me:
Heat resistanceโSoapstone can handle a hot pan with no damage. This resistance to heat as well as ability to store heat also makes it a great material around hearths and in stoves.
Non-porous โ Soapstone is impervious to products found in the kitchen that would stain other materials like granite or marble. Its non-porous properties also make it impervious to bacteria.
Chemically neutral โ It resists both high acid and high alkaline substances unlike other materials that need to be sealed for protection from etching or scarring.
The dining area is just off the kitchen and everything we used are antiques that have been passed down through our family which makes it even more special. This beautiful fixture is another Circa Lighting piece that ties this space in perfectly with the kitchen.
